What the ratings tell you

EPA estimates are standardized comparison points. They are not a promise of the fuel use you will see on every trip.

Combined MPG
A blended city-and-highway estimate. It is often the best single figure for comparing gasoline, diesel, and hybrid versions.
City and highway MPG
These separate estimates help when most of your driving is in traffic or primarily on open roads.
Estimated annual fuel cost
An EPA estimate that puts efficiency into a yearly cost figure. Compare it alongside the fuel type and the version’s equipment.
Electric vehicle ratings
EPA electric-vehicle efficiency is commonly expressed as MPGe, an energy-equivalent measure. Use the electric vehicle guide when you want to compare EVs directly.

Why can a model have more than one fuel-economy figure?

A model can be sold with different engines, drivetrains, batteries, or transmissions. Open the model year page to see each available version and its EPA record.

Can a vehicle appear in more than one guide?

Yes. A vehicle can belong to an EPA body-style group and also be electric. The car guide is organized by body style, while the electric vehicle guide is organized by powertrain.

Where do the figures come from?
